I recently praticipated in the Sonoma Mud Run. It was a blast! I ran it with Clinton, Natalie and Sarah. I was just looking at some pictures from the mud run and it got me thinking about moms and working out. It seems like everyone has an excuse these days for why they are not working out. Well this is my take on it. (Warning: What you are about to read, may be offensive.)
After I had Payton, I knew right away that I was not going to be happy with my body until I got it back to pre baby form. I unfortunatly found out that no matter what I did I would never get my "prebaby body back." At least not the way I wanted it. I am back to my prebaby weight, but my body is definitely not the same. My hips are wider, along with the rest of my mid section from housing Pretty Priddy for 36weeks. Once I finally got over my body was never going to be the same, I just started working towards my "mom body." Sounds funny, but I know there are some ladies out there that know exactly what I am talking about.
So there are a few things I say to myself to get myself motivated to work out 1) "Do not reward yourself with food, you are not a dog!" 2) "Nobody said it was easy" 3) "Nobody ever regreted working out and then the last thing that pushes me along to get my butt up is, the thought that I always want to look good for Clinton. I know, I know it sounds silly, but who doesn't want to look good for their significant other? That being said, I have to say that I am totally my own worst enemy. I am the hardest on myself. So another way I get myself off the couch is proving myself wrong. I know it sounds crazy, but it works! I tell myself you can do 10 minutes of push ups/situps and then pretty soon that moves into 20 minutes and then that works into a whole workout. And even if it doesn't at least I did 10 minutes!
I have to mention one of my biggest pet peeves lately. Granted I might spark a nerve with people when I say this, but here is goes. I am apart of a couple groups on facebook and nothing annoys me more than women who bitch about "being overweight" or their husbands mentioning they should think about going on diet or they are so "sick" of themselves, but yet they are doing nothing about it but getting on facebook to find reassurance from other women who feel the same way. If you are wanting sympathy you are not going to get it from me. Here's what you do ...Get off your butt and off your computer ! If you spent the amount of time working out as you did complaining on facebook, you would probably start seeing some changes in your body. Then instead of moaning and groaning about the way you look, you would actually feel good about yourself. Let's be honest, the thing that is keeping you from working out is you! Not your kids, not your job, not housework...IT IS YOU! YOU, YOU, YOU! Do yourself a favor and give your self 20 minutes a day. You deserve it. You take care of everyone else all day, I think you are entitled to some you time.
Most women say by the time they get home, and the kids go to bed, all they want to do is sit down and watch a show. I don't blame you, but here is my tip. When you sit down to watch that show, how about you use the commercials as your time to workout. Every comercial break do some abs, push ups, lunges, squats or use your weights if you have them. The point is, you can find time to do anything if it rates high enough on your priority. So mamas start making your health a priority:)
Here is a sample of what I do:
Car Commercials : Arms ( push ups, free weights, planks)
fast food comm.:abs
movie ads or new show ads: legs( squats, lunges, leg lifts)
any other ads:cardio(run in place, burpees, jump rope, jump 'n jacks)
You get the idea. There are about 3 commercial breaks for a 30 min show and about 6 in a 60 min show. It is better than not doing anything. If you are like me and hate commercials, so you just fast forward through them, that is okay too. Then do the same idea, but while you are watching the show. Then use the commercials as your break. Then when the show comes back on move onto the next body part.
No more excuses !
(Once again, sorry for the spelling, I am writing this in a hurry and my spell check is still not working)
